2009 Directions:

Directions to our Camp Rendezvous Point of Rudolf Reese Park in Sultan for the weeks of:

June 28 - July 4, 2009: Primtive Survival Camps
July 12-18, 2009: Artisan & Scout Camps
July 26 - Aug 1, 2009: Herbal & Tracking Camps

The City of Sultan doesn't have an official address for the park, but MapQuest uses "[100-299] Old Owen Rd Sultan, WA 98294" if you woulde like to plug that in. But it's not hard to find. Rudolf Reese Park is just off Hwy. 2 on Old Owen Road, in Sultan, WA. Turn at the stop lights at the Sultan Red Apple, and go north just 1/4 mile. The park is a quick turn to your right, exactly where the road begins to ascend, and before it curves. It's a small park, so you'll see where we are.

It takes 40 minutes to drive from Everett to Sultan, or 30 minutes from Woodinville to Sultan, if traffic is decent, so please allow plenty of time, and feel free to arrive early to enjoy the ballfields and unmanicured trail down to the river before we start. However, our staff will be scurrying around preparing for the meal and presentations, so you might want to wait until Noon to start chatting with us:)

------------

Directions to our Camp Rendezvous Point of the Junction Convenience Store in Tonasket for the Permaculture Week of July 18-25, 2009:

Put 509 S Whitcomb Ave, Tonasket, WA 98855 into MapQuest, but it once you get to Tonasket, it would be hard to miss since it on the corner of Hwy. 20 and Hwy. 97 in Tonasket, which is about a 5 hour drive from Seattle or Spokane, with the nearest commercial airport being Wenatchee, which is a 2 hour drive and has a couple quick flights from Seattle every day.

The Okanogan River Natural Foods Co-Op at 21 W 4th St, Tonasket, WA, is not open early enough for us to rendezvous there, but it's where we will gather most of our supplemental groceries and supplies.

------------

Directions to our Camp Rendezvous Point for the Alpine Wilderness Week of August 9-15, 2009: Squires Creek Park Campground near Darrington, WA

Put 41415 State Route 530 NE, Arlington, WA 98223 into MapQuest, or follow these directions:

Take Interstate 5 to the Arlington exit 208. Go east on Hwy 530 for 4 miles to Arlington, where you'll need to follow the signs and hop one block north to stay on Hwy 530. Go another 24 miles east (watching the yellow suggested speed signs closely as there are a couple doosie turns in the road) and you'll see the brown sign for Squires Creek Campground. Landmarks include Milepost 45 a half mile in advance, and the bridge over Squires Creek just before you turn left onto the campground road. If you get to Darrington you went about 6 miles too far.

Drive along the campground road and park in the one general parking lot to the left if there is room. If there is no room in the lot, then go back and park back along the entry road and walk in. We'll be set up in one of the 2 covered picnic shelters, or between them under the trees.

It takes 45 minutes to drive from Interestate 5 to Squires Creek Park, so please allow plenty of time, and feel free to arrive early to enjoy the creek before we start. However, our staff will be scurrying around preparing for the meal and presentations, so you might want to wait until Noon to start chatting with us:)

Directions to our Camp Rendezvous Point for the Arts Week of August 22-29, 2009: Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater in Snohomish, WA

Put 1211 4th St, Snohomish, WA 98290 into MapQuest, or follow these directions:

From the Bellevue-Bothell area, take I-405 and get onto Hwy. 522 going 3 miles east, then take the Hwy. 9 exit, turning north and going 10 miles up to Snohomish. Take the downtown Snohomish exit, turning east and going 3 blocks on 2nd Street. Turn north (left) onto Avenue D. The Thumb is 2 blocks up on the right, at 1211 4th St.

From downtown Seattle, there are a variety of shortcuts, but it's probablly quickest, depending on traffic of course, to go up to Everett and then take Hwy. 2 east. That northbound exit onto Hwy. 2 in Everett is a little confusing now however, as it seems to direct you to take a premature off-ramp. That happened to me the first time after they finished construction "improvements" last year anyway. So be sure to stay in the correct lane, and take Hwy. 2 east toward Monroe/Wenatchee. Go 2 miles east on Hwy. 2 to the first Snohomish exit, putting you onto Bickford Ave., following it into town 2 miles, where the street name changes to Avenue D. Keep going and watch the street signs as they descend toward 4th Street. The Thumb is on the left corner of Avenue D at 1211 4th St.

From British Columbia, Whatcom & Skagit Counties, and Everett: Take Interstate 5 to Everett, then exit onto Hwy.

From Monroe, go west on Hwy. 2, and take the first Snohomish exit, turning left at the end of the off-ramp, which puts you onto what will become 2nd. St. Go about 1.5 miles, through 3 stop-lights, then the last of which will be Avenue D. Turn north (right) onto Avenue D. The Thumb is 2 blocks up on the right, at 1211 4th St.

Going north, take the quick little off-street just as the ramp lets you off I5 onto 73rd St. to Safeway, and either return via Roosevelt Way back onto the 65th St. onramp, or turn left onto 75th St. and then take the quick ramp onto south I5. UW Employees can just go up 12th or 15th or 25th to 75th Avenue to get to Safeway. Ravenna neighborhood parents just need to come down Lake City Way and exit onto Roosevelt Way right before the I5 express lanes onramp. It puts you right into the Safeway parking lot.

Ballinger Village Vanpool Option serving Lake Forest Park, Edmonds, Moutlake Terrace, Lynnwood, Kirkland, Bothell & Woodinville at $25/week: Ballinger Village Thriftway in Shoreline off I5 exit 177 at 20036 Ballinger Way NE, leaving at 8:45 a.m. and arriving back at 4:15 p.m. (except Friday afternoon when everyone will be gathering at McCollum Park from 3:45-4:45 for camper presentations) the week of July 6-10 only in 2009. From Monroe, take the first Snohomish exit off Hwy. 2 and then turn left, going 1/2 mile into Snohomish. After you see Rite-Aid on your right, the co-op will be on your left. We will also help you make carpool arrangements with other camp families from Lake Stevens and Monroe if requested. From the east side of Lake Stevens, the best way is to take Machias Road into Snohomish and go straight as it turns into Maple St. all the way to 2nd. St. Turn left there and the co-op will be a one block east on the south side of 2nd St. From the west side of Lake Stevens, the fastwest way is to drive down and get onto Hwy. 2 going east toward Monroe, then get off on the next exit, turning right back into Snohom

Meet in the parking lot next to the street where fewer cars park.

We can also help you make carpool arrangements with other camp families from Seattle, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace & Edmonds. The reason we meet at the Arco and not Third Place Books is that it's easiest to turn in-and-out-of coming from Seattle on Lake City Way, and those coming down Ballinger Way from Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace & Edmonds can go around on local streets behind Third Place Books to avoid the big stop light.
