Winter Class Series begin January 6th, 2009All classes run from 6-9 p.m. beginning with a pot-luck dinner. Classes take place at the new Wolf Camp home office at 1313 A 2nd St. in historic downtown Snohomish. Please park on "E" Street as there is no parking right around our home office. Costs vary, so see class descriptions below for details. Driving Directions Tuesdays: Permaculture Pot Luck begins January 6, 2009 and will run through Memorial Day, then pick back up again in the fall beginning September 22, 2009. This is a complimentary event for those who are currently engaged in permaculture projects and who will be preparing pot-luck dishes to share, while the public is also invited to attend at a $5.00 contribution level to learn about permaculture. The 6-7 o'clock hour is a great time to network, discuss questions, review materials, and share art and music with others, while the 7-8 hour will be our time to eat dinner together and discuss the permaculture work we've done over the previous week. The 8-9 hour will be a time when we can choose a topic of discussion, including the principles of permaculture, achieving sustainability, the interplay of earth skills and permaculture, appropriate technologies and peak oil, climate changes, earthworks, forest gardening, the economy and more. Additional Spring-Fall Class Series begin March 23, 2009Mondays: Cooperative Group Facilitation runs March 23 - May 19 in the Spring of 2009, and September 21 - November 16 in the Fall of 2009. This is a great introduction to group facilitation, and is also a great remedial training for those who have already practiced facilitating groups but who want to work out issues they have faced, or feel they may face in the future. The 6-7 o'clock hour is a great time to discuss questions, review materials, and share art and music with others, while the 7-8 hour will be a lesson on the fundamentals of group facilitation. The 8-9 hour will be a time for you to practice your skills and ask instructor Chris Chisholm questions where he will draw answers from his 20 years of facilitation experience, beginning with his non-violence training as a witness for Wisconsin Chippewa Treaty Rights in the late 80s, his conflict resolution training as housing/homeless advocacy co-chair of the Whatcom County Rainbow Coalition in the early 90s, his youth and spanish-language group counseling at Sea Mar Community Health Centers in the mid 90s, his elementary school teacher training while at the Whatcom Hills Waldorf School in the late 90s, his youth camp counselor training while directing Wolf Camp, and his most recent experiences facilitating internship and apprenticeship programs for young adults while directing Wolf Camp. The cost is $5.00 for those with demonstrated facilitation experience, and $10.00 per class for beginners during this pilot 5 week program. Wednesdays: Earth Skills Study runs March 25 - May 21 in the Spring of 2009, and September 23 - November 18 in the Fall of 2009. This is a great introduction to earth skills education for those unfamiliar, but it is also a chance for earth skills practitioners to gather together and share study site experiences, solve pitfalls of primitive technology, discuss problems that arise with groups in outdoor settings, and more. Bring a pot-luck while we network, discuss questions, review materials from the Wolf Camp library, share music and art, and assist attending earth skills practitioners to prepare dishes using wild edibles during the 6-7 o'clock hour. The 7-8 hour will be dinnertime as we discuss the experiences we had over the past week at our study sites and hiking/boating destinations. The 8-9 hour will be a time to practice a skill, to be decided by attending participants, such as wildlife tracking, bird voices, herbal medicine, primitive fire, basketry, cordage, carving, etc., and also a chance to ask instructor Chris Chisholm questions where he will reflect upon experiences from his 15 years of childhood outdoors and 15 years of subsequent experience as an earth skill educator while running Wolf Camp. There is no charge for those who are already teaching in the field of earth skills, or $5.00 for those who are actively studying the Wolf Journey or similar secret-spot-based curriculum, and $10.00 per class for everyone else during this pilot 5 week program. Thursdays: Art & Music Composition runs March 26 - May 22 in the Spring of 2009, and September 23 - November 19 in the Fall of 2009. This class is a great opportunity to learn the theory behind music composition and nature sketching, plus a great chance to practice writing music and poetry, and drawing creatures from the plant, animal, and elemental worlds. Bring a pot-luck dish to share and eat together during the 6-7 o'clock hour while you can discuss questions, review materials, and practice art and music with others using the sound equipment, piano, guitars, jimbays, flutes, colored pencils and other art materials, then receive a lesson on music and art composition during the 7-8 hour where instructor Chris Chisholm will draw upon his 15 years of childhood music training, 10 years of teaching private piano and guitar lessons, and 5 years of practicing a natural form of visual art that works well for anyone. The 8-9 hour will be a time for you to work on your compositions with help from Chris and others in the class, or to test-perform compositions you worked on over the previous week. The cost is $5.00 for those who are currently teaching or professionally recording music and art, and $10.00 per class for beginners/intermediates. You can also try out your compositions on Friday nights at Open Mic Lives! located in the Thumbnail Theater just up the street from the Wolf Camp home office where Chris has some of his sound equipment on loan, and Chris will also help you schedule and promote cover performances of your compositions at the Thumbnail on Saturday nights if you like. Costs are listed with each description, and if you would like to ensure a space in the class(es) you like, then be sure to RSVP. Pre-payment may be required for these classes in 2009. Our refund policy is written just above where you sign your registration form. It reads that if we cannot accept your registration due to closed enrollment or other reason during the application process, you will receive a full refund on deposits. Otherwise, deposits are not refundable. If you need to cancel after making further payment, you may receive a credit for a future program, minus a 25% administration fee of your total payments, in case of emergency. Of course, you will receive a full refund if the program you sign up for is canceled and not rescheduled at a time you can attend. Participants may be asked to leave at any time for inappropriate behavior or unresolvable match to camp, and no refund (nor credit necessarily) will be given for the portion of the program which is missed. Transportation & Packing List for Weekend Outings Click Here for our Camp Locator Map & Driving Directions. Adults may buy one of our Frost Mora survival knives for $15 if you wish. Youth need to pass our Level III safety test before buying a knife. We also have journal materials, binoculars, field guides, instruments, extra sanitary supplies, water bottles, rain ponchos, compasses, blankets, and of course sunscreen available when necessary for use. Many products are also available in our camp store, with all revenues donated to the WOLF Foundation - Max Davis Scholarships. Most important is a good nights rest and a really good breakfast every day. In particular, if young people stay up late before any camp day, they will most certainly have difficulties the next day with us. Everyone should get a very tired camper back at the end of the camp day, but we often find that sleep deprivation or malnutrition are common causes of fatigue or behavioral issues before 3:30 in the afternoon. If you have a favorite item you want to bring, even if we've said you don't need to, just let us know before the day starts or whenever you need them during camp. Otherwise, these are the items to pack: ___ Day pack that is comfortable and functional, with a full, small water bottle that will not leak. Also, bring two oversized plastic garbage bags to cover your gear in case of rain. Lost & Found Policy: You can pick up lost items from the Wolf Camp store up to 90 days after your camp is over. Otherwise, forgotten items will be picked up by charity. To help avoid loosing things, please put your name on every item you bring. For clothes, print your name on the tag. Thank you! ----------------- Employment: We only need instructors with experience running camps and teaching in the field of Earth Skills and Permaculture, including skills of Tracking, Primitive Artisanry, Herbalism, or Wilderness EMT training with real outdoor survival practice. If you would like experience as a teacher and learn skills of the Naturalist, Tracker, Herbalist, Scout, Hunter, Artisan, or Permaculture Pioneer, apply to become an instructor through our Earth Skills Teaching Apprenticeship. We are also seeking an additional permaculturist, herbalist, tracker, artisan, marketor, administrator, and custodian to invest in Wolf Camp during our transition into a workers cooperative.
